|8/18/2017||George Fant, Sea, T|
|Fant has been taken off the field on the cart after appearing to suffer a significant right knee injury against Minnesota. Fant, the presumptive starter going into the regular season, was hurt midway through the second quarter of Friday's game against the Vikings. Fant was rolled into by teammate Justin Britt on a pass play and immediately fell to the turf in pain. The team training staff attended to Fant on the field and placed an air saround his leg.
Analysis: Fant took over at left tackle midway through last season and spent the offseason reshaping his body to be stronger going into this season. Earlier this week offensive line coach Tom Cable said Seattle was set on the left side of the offensive line with Fant at tackle and Luke Joeckel at guard.
|8/18/2017||DeShone Kizer, Cle, QB|
|Brock Osweiler will make his second straight preseason start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when they face the Giants on Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, but head coach Hue Jackson's main mission is getting an extended look at Kizer.
Analysis: "It doesn't mean anything for the regular season," Jackson said. "This is this game. (Osweiler) will walk out first. (His playing time) could decrease. I want to see these young guys play quite a bit. That's why I'm putting (Kizer) out there second."
|8/18/2017||Brock Osweiler, Cle, QB|
|Osweiler will make his second straight preseason start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when they face the Giants on Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, but head coach Hue Jackson's main mission is getting an extended look at rookie DeShone Kizer.
Analysis: Osweiler played four series in the preseason opener and might get less time against the Giants.
|8/18/2017||Jordan Howard, Chi, RB|
|Howard sustained a corneal abrasion during a walk-through practice Friday and has been ruled out for the team's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Analysis: Howard, who was selected to the Pro Bowl last season, did not travel with the team to Arizona for Saturday's game. Multiple outlets reported that the Bears are of the mindset that Howard's injury is minor. Howard rushed 252 times for 1,313 yards with six touchdowns in 15 games last season and had 29 receptions for 298 yards and a score.
|8/18/2017||LeSean McCoy, Buf, RB|
|McCoy rushed four times for 21 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards in his preseason debut Thursday in a loss to the Eagles, his former team.
Analysis: McCoy, who turned 29 last month, looked very sharp and will clearly be the workhorse in a Buffalo offense which has a suspect quarterback in Tyrod Taylor.
|8/18/2017||Anquan Boldin, Buf, WR|
|Boldin caught one of his three targets for five yards in his preseason debut for the Bills.
Analysis: Boldin is in line to start for Buffalo even though he just joined the team earlier this month. With Sammy Watkins traded and fellow newcomer Jordan Matthews banged up, the Bills have an inexperienced wide receiver corps outside of Boldin. However, his value may be limited considering the very shaky Tyrod Taylor is throwing the ball, at least for now.
|8/18/2017||Tyrod Taylor, Buf, QB|
|Taylor was 8 of 18 for 53 yards and two interceptions in Thursday's preseason loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: This performance did nothing to shake the notion that Taylor's job as the Bills' No. 1 quarterback is far from safe. Granted, he'll start the season opener, but if he continues performing as he has in the preseason, T.J. Yates could soon take over under center.
|8/18/2017||Nelson Agholor, Phi, WR|
|Agholor caught two passes for 28 yards and had no gain on one rushing attempts in Thursday's preseason win over the Bills.
Analysis: Agholor caught the only passes thrown to him by Carson Wentz and was targeted three times overall. Even though the play went nowhere, the fact that he carried the ball could be a sign the Eagles want him to be a big part of the offense. Agholor has reportedly had an excellent camp, one reason the Eagles didn't mind trading Jordan Matthews.
|8/18/2017||LeGarrette Blount, Phi, RB|
|Blount had five carries for eight yards and two receptions for 15 yards as well as a fumble in Thursday's preseason win over the Bills.
Analysis: Blount's first year with the Eagles is off to a rocky start. He has nine carries for 17 yards in two preseason games and reportedly hasn't looked very good in practice, either. He was signed to be the lead back, a premise further made clear by the release of Ryan Mathews. However, he could lose touches to Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood if he keeps underwhelming the Eagles coaches.
|8/18/2017||Carson Wentz, Phi, QB|
|Wentz completed 6 of 9 passes for 56 yards with no TDs or INTs in Thursday's preseason win over the Bills.
Analysis: Wentz wasn't supposed to play much, but after three-and-outs on the Eagles' first three drives, he was sent back out on the field for one more possession. He led the team 65 yards on eight plays, completing 5 of 6 attempts, though the drive ended with LeGarrette Blount's fumble. Wentz hooked up with new wideout Alshon Jeffery twice on that drive, an offseason addition which should improve Wentz's value.
|8/18/2017||Alshon Jeffery, Phi, WR|
|Jeffery caught his first pass from Carson Wentz and finished with two receptions for 23 yards in his first preseason game for the Eagles on Thursday against the Bills.
Analysis: Jeffery was targeted on five of Wentz's nine pass attempts, a clear sign that he should be the young quarterback's No. 1 option. Two of the passes Jeffery didn't catch were overthrown, and the other was an off-the-mark throw by Wentz in the end zone.
|8/18/2017||Ryan Mallett, Bal, QB|
|Mallett passed for one touchdown and 113 yards, and kicker Justin Tucker accounted for three field goals and a recovered fumble to lead the Ravens to a 31-7 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Analysis: Baltimore (2-0), which has been dealing with a rash of offseason injuries, including a back problem that still has No. 1 quarterback Joe Flacco sidelined, scored 31 unanswered points to overcome a 7-0 deficit early in the second quarter. The Ravens believe Flacco will be ready for the season opener.
|8/18/2017||Jay Cutler, Mia, QB|
|Cutler, 34, is replacing quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who sustained a season-ending knee injury Aug. 3. On Thursday, Cutler ended 3 of 6 passing for 24 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He played two series, which amounted to nine snaps.
Analysis: In the big picture, Miami is hoping Cutler can get up to speed quickly enough to replicate the success he had under Dolphins head coach Adam Gase in 2015 in Chicago. Gase served as the Bears' offensive coordinator that year. Cutler finished the 2015 season with 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a career-best 92.3 passer rating.
|8/18/2017||Justin Tucker, Bal, K|
|Tucker connected on a 52-yarder for the Ravens' first points of the night on Thursday. He also made a 59-yarder in Baltimore's preseason-opening win over Washington, and was 10 for 10 on tries from 50 yards or more last season.
Analysis: Tucker is no doubt again set to be one of the top fantasy kickers in the league.
|8/18/2017||Dede Westbrook, Jax, WR|
|Westbrook was targeted seven times and caught six passes for 131 yards in the Jaguars' preseason loss to the Bucs.
Analysis: Westbrook, a fourth-round pick, should be the Jaguars' No. 4 wideout when the season opens. But just beware - he'll either be catching passes from Chad Henne or Blake Bortles.
|8/18/2017||Jameis Winston, TB, QB|
|Winston continued his solid preseason in a 12-8 win over the Jaguars, completing 21 of 29 passes for 196 yards for Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Winston had two passes dropped, including what would have been a 43-yard touchdown strike to Mike Evans in the first quarter.
|8/18/2017||Chad Henne, Jax, QB|
|Henne finished 6-of-10 passing for 44 yards in the Jaguars' preseason game against the Bucs on Thursday, and may suddenly find himself as the team's starting QB.
Analysis: More so due to the general uselessness of Blake Bortles than his own success, Henne seems to be the odds-on favorite to start under center for Jacksonville, as Doug Marrone declared the team's QB competition open.
|8/18/2017||Blake Bortles, Jax, QB|
|The Bortles era in Jacksonville may be nearing an end as coach Doug Marrone said after Thursday's preseason game that the starting QB spot is up for grabs.
Analysis: Bortles completed 8 of 13 passes for 65 yards in a 12-8 preseason loss to Tampa Bay and headed to the sideline after four possessions that ended with punts. He missed Allen Robinson on two plays, including a woefully underthrown ball down the seam. Chad Henne figures to be the starter heading into the regular season.
|8/18/2017||Derek Rivers, NE, DE|
|Patriots defensive end Derek Rivers' rookie season may be over due to a knee injury.
Analysis: The Patriots fear they have lost their top pick (third round, 83rd overall) in the draft for the entire season, league sources told ESPN on Friday. Rivers was injured on a kickoff coverage drill Wednesday in a joint practice with the Texans. Rivers, who was projected to be part of a rotation at defensive end, played 41 snaps in last Thursday night's preseason opener against the Jaguars. He had 41 sacks at Youngstown State, including 14 as a senior.
|8/17/2017||Ryan Kelly, Ind, C|
|Kelly is expected to miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on a bone defect in his foot.
Analysis: Kelly started all 16 games last season, so this is another obstacle Andrew Luck and the offense will have to overcome early in 2017.
