2/10/2012 Rey Maualuga, LB Maualuga has been charged with assault stemming from a downtown Cincinnati bar incident. Police cited the 25-year-old Maualuga with the misdemeanor count on Friday after investigating allegations by a bar employee that Maualuga punched him in the face early Sunday morning. Maualuga's arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 17. No attorney was listed for him.

Analysis: Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the club doesn't comment on unresolved legal matters.
2/10/2012 Lavelle Hawkins, WR The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with Hawkins, making him their third pending free agent kept off the market. The Titans announced Friday that Hawkins had agreed to a multi-year contract.

Analysis: Hawkins is coming off his best season yet. A fourth-round pick in 2008 out of California, Hawkins played in 16 games with two starts, and he caught 47 passes for 470 yards with a touchdown. He ranked fourth in receptions and second with 17 catches on third down.
2/10/2012 Josh Morgan, WR Morgan is running, and even sprinting, again on the surgically repaired right leg that limited him to only five games in 2011 for the NFC West champions.

Analysis: Morgan broke a bone in his lower leg Oct. 9 against Tampa Bay, had surgery to have screws inserted and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. While Morgan is set to become a free agent, coach Jim Harbaugh has said the team plans to bring him back for next season.
2/10/2012 Peyton Manning, QB Manning and Rockies first baseman Todd Helton have been working out at Duke this week, an athletic department spokesman says Thursday.

Analysis: The spokesman said both are there primarily to visit David Cutcliffe, who was Tennessee's offensive coordinator when both were college quarterbacks. Manning has spent the past five months recovering from his third neck surgery in less than two years, and there have been conflicting reports about how much progress the four-time league MVP has made.
2/10/2012 Rob Gronkowski, TE Gronkowski had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Friday. The injury hampered Gronkowski in the Super Bowl, when he had just two catches for 26 yards in the 21-17 loss to the New York Giants in Indianapolis. His recovery schedule will last 10-12 weeks.

Analysis: Gronkowski suffered a high-ankle sprain in the AFC Championship game against the Ravens at home, a 23-20 victory. The surgery was first reported by the Sports Business Journal.
2/10/2012 Weslye Saunders, TE The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that the NFL has suspended Saunders for four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Analysis: Saunders' suspension will begin Sept. 1. As a rookie, the tight end and undrafted free agent out of South Carolina caught four passes for 29 yards. He scored his only touchdown during a 13-9 win in Kansas City on Nov. 27.
2/9/2012 Stanford Routt, CB Routt was released on Thursday just one year into a $54.5 million, five-year contract, ending his seven-year tenure in Oakland as the team heads in a new direction.

Analysis: Routt became the first player casualty under the new regime with the Raiders. The move by new general manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen signifies a change of approach from when the late Al Davis ran the team and was fiercely loyal to players he drafted.
2/9/2012 Mike Otto, T Tennessee Titans agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with offensive tackle Mike Otto on Thursday, trimming the number of their pending free agents to 16.

Analysis: Tennessee drafted Otto in the seventh round out of Purdue in 2007. Otto has played 41 games in five seasons with the Titans, and he started a game at right tackle in 2011 against Tampa Bay when David Stewart was injured. Otto was set to become a free agent March 13.
2/8/2012 Santonio Holmes, WR It appears Santonio Holmes is sticking around - just as the New York Jets said he would. By remaining on the roster through the second day of the NFL's waiver period Tuesday, the talented but troublesome wide receiver will get $15.25 million in guaranteed money over the next two seasons. A clause in Holmes' contract, signed last offseason, kicked in Wednesday morning.

Analysis: Holmes' future appeared murky with the Jets after a tumultuous season in which he feuded with quarterback Mark Sanchez and offensive linemen, and was benched during the season finale in Miami for arguing in the huddle. Still, owner Woody Johnson, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan all insisted that Holmes would remain with the team despite the squabbles.
2/7/2012 Patrick Turner, WR A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets have re-signed wide receiver Patrick Turner to a one-year contract.

Analysis: The deal, agreed upon about 10 days ago, is worth $875,000 with a $250,000 signing bonus. The 24-year-old Turner was scheduled to become a restricted free agent next month. A former college teammate of quarterback Mark Sanchez at Southern California, Turner had eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown last season. The Jets claimed him off waivers in 2010 from Miami, where Turner played under newly hired New York offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.
2/7/2012 Jake Ballard, TE Ballard tore his left anterior cruciate ligament during the second half of Super Bowl, the team announced on Tuesday.

Analysis: An MRI discovered Ballard's injury, and with the help of crutches, he was able to participate in Tuesday's parade and ceremonies in New York and New Jersey. Ballard, an undrafted free agent, had 38 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns this regular season. In the four playoff games, he had five catches for 43 yards. He had two receptions in the Giants' 21-17 win over New England on Sunday.
2/7/2012 Ricky Williams, RB Williams says he's retiring from football.

Analysis: The 34-year-old Williams still has a year left on his contract with Baltimore, but told the team Tuesday that he does not intend to play next year. This season, his first in Baltimore, he ran for 444 yards and scored two TDs as a backup to Ray Rice. Williams led the NFL in 2002 with 1,853 yards rushing for Miami.
2/7/2012 Rian Lindell, K The Bills have re-signed kicker Rian Lindell.

Analysis: Lindell was re-signed before he was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next month. Lindell had played in 180 straight games before being sidelined by a season-ending shoulder injury in November.
2/7/2012 Knowshon Moreno, RB Moreno has been charged with drunken driving and careless driving after getting pulled over in south Denver.

Analysis: Denver district attorney's spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said Tuesday that Moreno is also charged with failure to have proof of insurance and is due back in court March 2 after police issued a summons. Denver police Lt. Matthew Murray says Moreno was pulled over on Feb. 1 after allegedly driving 70 mph in an interstate construction zone where the speed limit was 45 mph.

2/5/2012 Travis Beckum, TE New York Giants tight end Travis Beckum has been knocked out of the Super Bowl game with a right knee injury.

Analysis: The Giants say the backup tight end tore his right anterior cruciate ligament with 12:55 left in the first half on Sunday. It's not clear how Beckum was hurt. The injury happened away from the play, a short pass out of the backfield. Two trainers had to help Beckum off the field.

2/5/2012 Chad Ochocinco, WR All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski is active for the Patriots for the Super Bowl, as is wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.

Analysis: Ochocinco was inactive for the conference title game because of the death of his father a week earlier. In his first season with New England, Ochocinco played in 15 regular-season games, missing a Week 11 win at Philadelphia. He started three times and had 15 catches with one touchdown in 2011.
